Dental Trade Shows & Conferences 2026–2027: The Complete Guide (Dates, Costs, and Who Should Actually Go)

There are more than 100 dental meetings on the calendar every year, and almost none of them are worth attending "just because." The right conference pays for itself three times over, in CE credits you actually need, equipment you negotiate below list price, and two or three relationships that change how your practice runs. The wrong one costs you $4,000 and three days of production.

This guide covers the major dental trade shows and conferences remaining in 2026 and running through 2027: confirmed dates, who each event is built for, what it realistically costs, and how to decide which two or three belong on your calendar. Dates below are the organizers'' published dates as of this writing, always confirm on the official site before booking travel.

    TL;DR, the shortlist

    • Practice owner who wants one big show a year: Greater New York Dental Meeting (Nov 27 – Dec 1, 2026), free pre-registration, largest exhibit hall in the US.
    • Office manager or front-desk leader: AADOM Annual Conference (Sep 3–5, 2026, Orlando).
    • Best all-around clinical CE value: Hinman Dental Meeting (Mar 18–20, 2027, Atlanta) or Yankee Dental Congress (Jan 28–30, 2027, Boston).
    • Buying technology this cycle: IDS Cologne (Mar 16–20, 2027), the global launch stage, held only in odd years.
    • Orthodontists: AAO Annual Session 2027, Vancouver, BC.
    • Group practice / DSO leadership: Dykema DSO Conference and AADGP, smaller rooms, higher-leverage conversations.

Why attend a dental conference at all in 2026?

Continuing education is available online for a fraction of the cost, so the honest answer is that CE is no longer the reason to go. These are:

    1. Equipment and software pricing is genuinely better on the floor

Show pricing is real. Scanners, imaging, chairs, and practice-management software are routinely discounted 10–25% for orders written during the meeting, often with financing or trade-in terms you will not get from a rep in your operatory in June. If you are already planning a $40,000–$120,000 capital purchase, a single show can cover the entire cost of attending.

    2. You can compare vendors side by side in one afternoon

Demoing three intraoral scanners takes six weeks of scheduled rep visits at home. It takes ninety minutes on an exhibit floor. The same is true for AI phone systems, patient communication platforms, imaging software, and membership plan vendors, you get to ask all of them the same hard question and watch who flinches.

    3. Hands-on CE that cannot be replicated online

Live-patient and typodont workshops, implant placement, clear aligner mechanics, endo with new file systems, laser certification, are the courses that actually change your Monday morning. They sell out first. Register the day registration opens.

    4. Team development and retention

Bringing your hygienists and front desk to a meeting is one of the cheapest retention tools available. Staff who feel invested in stay longer, and the ROI on a $600 registration versus a $15,000 hiring-and-training cycle is not close.

    5. Benchmarking

Hallway conversations tell you what other offices are charging, what their hygiene reappointment rate looks like, what they pay for staffing in your region, and which vendors they have quietly fired. This information does not exist in any published report.

    The 2026–2027 dental conference calendar

    Remaining in 2026

AADOM Annual Conference, September 3–5, 2026 · Orlando, FL

Venue: Loews Sapphire Falls Resort. Who it is for: office managers, practice administrators, and any owner who wants their manager to level up.

AADOM is the only major national meeting built entirely for the business side of dentistry. Sessions cover insurance and revenue cycle, scheduling systems, HR and hiring, team culture, and technology adoption. It is small enough (roughly 1,200–1,500 attendees) that you will actually meet people, and the peer network your manager builds here tends to outlast any single session. If you send one team member to one event all year, this is the highest-ROI option for most practices. AADOM has also confirmed Sep 9–11, 2027 in Scottsdale, AZ and Sep 7–9, 2028 in Austin, TX.

Greater New York Dental Meeting, November 27 – December 1, 2026 · New York, NY

Venue: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Exhibit dates: Nov 29 – Dec 1. Who it is for: everyone, this is the largest dental meeting in the United States.

GNYDM draws roughly 30,000+ attendees from 130+ countries with 450+ exhibitors and 300+ CE courses, and pre-registration is free. That single fact makes it the most accessible major meeting in the country: you pay for travel and hotel, tuition only if you take paid courses. The tradeoff is Manhattan hotel pricing over Thanksgiving weekend and a floor so large you need a plan to work it. Come with a written vendor list. 2027: Nov 26–30. 2028: Nov 24–28.

    A note on SmileCon

The ADA sunset SmileCon after its 2025 event in Washington, D.C. The planned October 2026 Indianapolis meeting was cancelled. If SmileCon was your annual anchor, GNYDM and the large regionals are where that audience has moved.

    2027

Yankee Dental Congress, January 28–30, 2027 · Boston, MA

Venue: Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Scale: ~28,000 attendees.

The largest meeting in the Northeast and one of the best CE-per-dollar events in the country. Strong hands-on workshop program, deep exhibit hall, and a well-run new-dentist and team track. Boston in late January is the only real drawback. Book hotels early, the convention center hotels sell out months ahead.

Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting, February 25–27, 2027 · Chicago, IL

    Venue: McCormick Place.

Midwinter is the technology buyer''s meeting in North America. Manufacturers time launches to it, the exhibit hall is enormous, and the CE program is unusually strong on digital dentistry, CAD/CAM, and imaging. If you are replacing a scanner, a CBCT, or your imaging software in 2027, this is the trip to take.

AEEDC Dubai, early February 2027 (confirm dates) · Dubai, UAE

The largest dental event in the Middle East and Africa, drawing around 55,000 attendees to the Dubai World Trade Centre. Relevant mostly to international practitioners, distributors, and manufacturers, but a remarkable buying floor if you are already traveling.

IDS, International Dental Show, March 16–20, 2027 · Cologne, Germany

Held only in odd-numbered years, IDS is the undisputed global leading trade fair for dentistry: the 2025 edition hosted 2,010 exhibitors from 61 countries and 135,000+ visitors across 180,000 m². Every major manufacturer launches its next-generation platform here, typically 6–18 months before it reaches US shelves.

Who should go: owners planning a full operatory or lab technology refresh, DSO technology committees, lab owners, and anyone doing vendor due diligence at scale. Who should skip it: anyone whose primary goal is CE credit, IDS is a trade fair, not a CE meeting.

Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting, March 18–20, 2027 · Atlanta, GA

Venue: Georgia World Congress Center. Exhibit hours: Thu & Fri 9–5, Sat 9–2.

Hinman has run for over 110 years and is consistently rated the friendliest major meeting in dentistry, a nonprofit meeting whose surplus funds dental scholarships. Excellent clinical CE at a low price point, strong team programming, and an exhibit hall large enough to do real comparison shopping without the McCormick Place step count. Note that Hinman and IDS overlap in 2027; if you need both, send different people.

AAO Annual Session, 2027 · Vancouver, BC (dates to be confirmed)

The American Association of Orthodontists'' annual session is the single most important meeting for orthodontists and their teams: research, mechanics, aligner systems, and an exhibit hall of ortho-specific vendors that appear nowhere else. (The 2026 session was held May 1–3 in Orlando; Vancouver follows in 2027 with dates published in late 2026.)

CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry, May 13–15, 2027 · Anaheim, CA

    Venue: Anaheim Convention Center.

The West Coast''s flagship meeting, with 18+ course tracks, a large exhibit hall, and pricing that is friendly to whole-team attendance. CDA also runs a second annual meeting in Northern California; check the CDA calendar for that date.

Dykema Definitive Conference for Dental Service Organizations, summer 2027 (dates to be confirmed)

The most substantive DSO meeting in the industry: legal structure, compliance, private equity, M&A, multi-site operations. The 2026 edition ran July 15–17. If you own three or more locations, or you are preparing for a transaction in the next 24 months, this is a different caliber of room than a clinical meeting.

AADGP Annual Conference, February 2027 (dates to be confirmed)

The American Academy of Dental Group Practice draws roughly 1,500 group-practice leaders. Smaller, operationally focused, and a good stepping stone before Dykema for two-to-five-location owners.

AADOM Annual Conference, September 9–11, 2027 · Scottsdale, AZ

Fairmont Princess Resort. Same format as 2026; registration opens roughly a year out and the early-bird tiers are meaningfully cheaper.

Greater New York Dental Meeting, November 26–30, 2027 · New York, NY

Exhibit dates Nov 28–30. Free pre-registration again.

Also worth putting on the radar

    • Your state dental association annual meeting, usually the cheapest license-relevant CE you will find, and the only place to build relationships with the specialists you actually refer to.
    • CIOSP São Paulo (late January), the largest meeting in Latin America, ~45,000 attendees.
    • Pacific Dental Conference (Vancouver, early March), the major Canadian meeting.
    • Practice-management summits run by coaching and DSO groups, small, expensive, and often the highest-density peer learning available.

    What a conference actually costs

    Line itemTypical range (per person)
    Registration$0 (GNYDM pre-reg) – $1,200
    Hands-on workshop tuition$250 – $1,500 per course
    Flights$300 – $700 domestic; $900 – $1,800 to Europe
    Hotel (3 nights)$600 – $1,500
    Meals and ground transport$250 – $500
    Realistic all-in, one attendee$1,500 – $4,000
    Lost production (owner-dentist, 2 clinical days)$6,000 – $15,000

That lost-production line is the number most practices forget, and it is usually the largest one. It is also the strongest argument for two things: attend meetings adjacent to a weekend, and send team members to the meetings that do not require you personally.

Much of this is deductible as a business expense when the meeting is directly related to your practice, registration, travel, lodging, and CE tuition. Talk to your CPA about documentation requirements before you go, and keep the agenda.

How to get real ROI out of a dental conference

    Before you go

    1. Write down one decision you intend to make at the show. "Choose an intraoral scanner." "Pick an AI phone platform." "Decide whether we add a hygienist." Everything else is secondary.
    2. Pre-book your workshops the day registration opens. Hands-on courses at Hinman, Yankee, and Midwinter sell out within weeks.
    3. Email the three vendors you care about and book a specific 30-minute slot at their booth. You get their senior person instead of whoever is free, and often the better pricing tier.
    4. Bring your current numbers. Production, collections, new patients per month, hygiene reappointment rate, call answer rate. Vendors and peers can only give you useful advice against real figures.
    5. Decide who covers the phones. This is the single most expensive mistake practices make at conference time, see below.

    At the show

    1. Work the exhibit hall on the first morning when reps are fresh and the aisles are empty.
    2. Ask every vendor the same three questions: what does it integrate with, what is the true all-in first-year cost, and who can I call who uses it in a practice my size?
    3. Take photos of booth pricing sheets. Show pricing expires, and you will want the documentation.
    4. Do not sign anything on day one. Walk the whole category first, then go back.
    5. Sit at a lunch table with strangers. The benchmarking conversations are the ROI.

    After you get back

    1. Block two hours on the Monday you return to write up decisions and assign owners. Notes that never get processed are the reason most conferences feel like a waste.
    2. Have every attendee teach one thing to the rest of the team at the next huddle.
    3. Log your CE credits immediately.
    4. Follow up with the five people whose cards you kept within one week.

The part nobody plans for: who answers the phone while you are gone

Here is the uncomfortable math. A typical practice takes 25–40 inbound calls a day. During a three-day meeting with a skeleton front desk, or the whole team at the show, a large share of those calls go to voicemail. Industry data consistently shows that most callers who reach a dental office''s voicemail simply hang up and call the next practice on the list, and a new patient call is worth several thousand dollars in lifetime value.

Miss fifteen calls across a conference week and you have very likely lost more revenue than the entire trip cost.

The fix is not "check voicemail at lunch." It is making sure every call is answered live, booked into your practice management system, and followed up on, whether or not anyone is in the building. That is exactly the problem an AI receptionist for dental offices solves: it answers on the first ring 24/7, checks real openings in your PMS, books the appointment, verifies insurance, texts the confirmation, and hands you a transcript of every call you missed.

Practices using Aron typically leave for a meeting with the AI receptionist covering the main line, missed-call text-back turned on, and the callback queue routed to whoever stayed behind. You come home to booked appointments instead of a full voicemail box.

    Frequently asked questions

Which dental conference is the largest?

Globally, IDS in Cologne (135,000+ visitors, odd years only). In the United States, the Greater New York Dental Meeting, with roughly 30,000+ attendees and 450+ exhibitors.

Which dental meeting is free to attend?

The Greater New York Dental Meeting offers free pre-registration for the meeting and exhibit hall. Paid CE courses are separate. Many state association meetings are also free or heavily discounted for members.

How many dental conferences should a practice attend per year?

For most practices: one major meeting plus one role-specific meeting. Owners get more out of one large regional show plus a management or DSO event than out of four scattered trips.

    Are dental conferences tax deductible?

Registration, CE tuition, travel, and lodging for meetings directly related to your practice are generally deductible business expenses. Confirm the specifics with your CPA and keep the agenda and receipts.

    When should I book travel?

Three to five months out for major meetings. Hotels near McCormick Place, the Javits Center, and the Boston Convention Center sell out well before the meeting, and rates roughly double once the block closes.

Should I bring my whole team?

Bring the people whose jobs the meeting is actually about. Sending the entire team to a clinical meeting is expensive and low-yield; sending your office manager to AADOM and your hygienists to a hygiene-focused meeting is not.

    Bottom line

Pick two meetings for the next twelve months: one big exhibit-hall show where you make a buying decision, and one role-specific meeting that develops a key team member. Register early, book your workshops on day one of registration, go in with a written decision to make, and make sure your phones are covered while you are away, because that is where the ROI quietly leaks out.
